Tip of the week
Use a starting "Skim Cut"
- Skim cuts give a guiding groove for the blade to follow, and can improve the look of the cut.
- Cut a ¼ of an inch (or about 6mm,) deep in your first pass.
- When skim cutting, always pull the saw backwards while pushing down on the motor. Cutting backwards causes the blade to do what is called a "climb cut" and puts most of the chipping at the bottom of the cut. But because the blade is trying to climb on top of the stone, you must add extra weight to the saw by pushing down on it. This keeps the blade from lifting the saw off the rails.
- Once the skim cut is finished, go forward with either full-plunge cutting or step cutting.
